Disability Support in the Library

Postal Service

Fill out a request form and email it to us. Your requested item will be issued to your account and posted. A postal charge will be added to your account. Return postage is also at your own expense. 

Borrowing by Proxy

If you cannot get to the library in person, you can nominate someone else to borrow items on your behalf.

Email your details to libraryandITenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk

The proxy will be approved and a confirmation email sent to your University of Plymouth email address.

Your nominated person (proxy) can collect books on your behalf and have them issued at the Information desk. They should bring your University card and some ID of their own.

Scanning Service

Within copyright limits, journal articles and book chapters can be scanned from items in stock and emailed to your university email address, free of charge. All you need to do is fill out a request form and email it to us.

Library Buddy

If you are concerned about entering or navigating the library, we can arrange for a library buddy to meet you outside and come in with you. We can give you a quick (about 10 minute) introduction to the library and its resources.

Come on your own, or with a friend or with a small group of colleagues.

To arrange a buddy you can  email libraryanditenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk or call on (01752) 588588 - Choose the student option.

Book Collection Service

You can ask for books to be made available for you to collect from the Library Information Desk on Level 1 of Charles Seale-Hayne library.

Email your requests to libraryandITenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk 

  • Please make sure you include author, title, edition and shelf mark number.
  • We require a minimum 24 hours notice and will email you when your requests are available for collection.
  • Requests can be collected between 08:00 - 20:00 daily.
  • Books will be held for 3 days. Any uncollected items will be returned to the library shelves.

Additional Learning Spaces

In addition to the study areas in the Library you can find learning spaces, across campus.

Areas differ in size and comprise of a variety of seating and tables with power points for your devices. See table and campus map for area locations.

Renewing Books

Renew items online by logging into your Primo library account with your university username and password.

You can also renew by phone on 01752 588588 or email libraryandITenquiries@plymouth.ac.uk.

If you have any problems renewing let us know. 

Recalled Books

You can borrow most items from the library for 6 weeks. 

If a book you have on loan is requested by another user you must return it within 7 days from the date of the recall or by the existing due date, whichever is sooner.

Regularly check your University email and your Primo library account for any recall noticifications.

If you cannot get into the library you can return items by post - return postage is at your own expense. If an item is not returned by the due date you will incur an overdue charge of £2 per day to a maximum of £50 per item

Support Workers

If you are employed to provide enabling study support to University of Plymouth students registered with Disability Services, you can apply for a free library access reference card for ease of access to the library.
