English and Creative Writing: Journals for English

The majority of the library's journals are available online - you don't need to come in to the library to access them.

Searching for journal articles and how to use them.

Most of the time you will find the academic or scholarly articles you need from peer-reviewed journals by using an "Articles" search on Primo but you may find it useful to look at the databases below. For articles from previous centuries contemporary to the subject of your research use the historical newspapers and periodicals collections.

Useful databases and full text collections

Historic newspapers & periodicals

We have large collections of historical newspapers
and periodicals online and we also have a great
many periodicals from the mid-19th century to the
mid-20th century in our
rare journals collection.

Not all of our journals are online. You will still find a few in the mobile shelves on Level 0. Some are current subscriptions that have not been made available electronically, some are early editions of journals that are now electronic but pre-date the digitisation process.
