Students studying Nursing at the Exeter School of Nursing have access to a digital library, plus all the physical resources held at the Charles Seale-Hayne Library on the Plymouth campus.  Postal loans can be arranged. Details of extra support offered is here.

The digital library includes:

  • hundreds of e-books on nursing and health subjects via Primo
  • access to full text electronic journal articles via Primo 
  • access to specific health databases for searching for journal articles plus specific e-resources such as Anatomy TV or Joanna Briggs Institute
  • access to full text publisher packages (InterNurse and RCNi)

Using National NHS library services & resources during your course

All students registered on an NHS commissioned course are eligible for a national NHS Athens account. This will be set up for you by the university on registration. You need to activate your account as soon as possible by clicking on the link in the confirmation email you receive or it will expire.

You can also access the British National Formulary (BNF or BNFC) by following these instructions:

Go to

·         Click on 'Sign in via OpenAthens' – the link below the sign in box

·         On the next page, sign in to the Authentication Point with your OpenAthens username and password

·         Click on 'Login' and you will be directed to the search page within MedicinesComplete with access to BNF and BNFC.

Do this on a computer or a laptop first.  You should then be able to get the BNF(C) App from the link below.

You may also be eligible for a local NHS Athens account whilst on placement in a particular trust. Please wait till you are on placement within the NHS and register from an NHS computer, stating the end-date of your placement in that trust, at:


This will enable you to access the NHS funded national  level content as well as the majority of locally purchased content via (some libraries will provide additional resources via their library website)
