Access to NHS LIbraries

To find details for the NHS library for your current placement go to: www.hlisd.org. Contact the library or visit their website to check local arrangements. 

To search the stock available in local NHS libraries go to: www.swims.nhs.uk except Exeter Health Library – go to: http://services.exeter.ac.uk/eml/

NHS Athens

You may also be eligible for a local NHS Athens account whilst on placement in a particular trust. Please wait till you are on placement within the NHS and register from an NHS computer, stating the end-date of your placement in that trust, at:  https://register.athensams.net/nhs/

 This will enable you to access the NHS funded national  level content as well as the majority of locally purchased content via www.library.nhs.uk (some libraries will provide additional resources via their library website)

Exeter School of Nursing

Students studying Nursing at the Exeter School of Nursing have access to a digital library, plus all the physical resources held at the Charles Seale-Hayne Library on the Plymouth campus.  Postal loans can be arranged. Information on library support for part-time, placement and distance students is available here

The digital library includes:

  • hundreds of e-books on nursing and health subjects via Primo
  • access to full text electronic journal articles via Primo 
  • access to specific health databases for searching for journal articles plus specific e-resources such as Anatomy TV or Joanna Briggs Institute
  • access to full text publisher packages (InterNurse and RCNi)

In addition to our stock of eBooks, there is a mini library of core Nursing Texts in the computer suite, Richmond Building (open 8.30-17:00 Monday-Friday term-time).  These can be self-issued by University of Plymouth Nursing students and staff.

If you are a student based in Cornwall you can use the Knowledge Spa in Truro
