An effective search needs planning.

You need to identify the important concepts of your question by reading your assignment and making sure you understand it.

 Decide on your keywords and consider the use of synonyms for the main terms and how to combine words to make the results more relevant. This will save  you time.

 Make sure you document your search by keeping a list of all search terms.  

You may find it useful to create a concept map to think of all the areas you want to research and the associated keywords and synonyms.  

Once you have identified the terms, you can try out the searches.
