There are two ways to share your library: You can share the library itself as a copy of your library and the person receiving this file would then have this as their own copy to edit which would be distinct from yours. Or, you can give someone a real-time version of your library that updates whenever you (or they!) make changes to your library. You can choose to set read access or write access to this version giving you control as to whether you want someone to collaborate with you on building the library. You can also set these permissions to just a group and not the whole library if you prefer.
Sharing a synced library (Endnote Online)
You can share your library with up to 100 other people and specific groups within your library with up to 1000 people by using Endnote Online, the cloud based version of your library. You can give them read or write access. Please note that people you have shared your synced library with cannot cannot view file attachments. The person you are sharing with must have an Endnote Online account set up for them to receive your sharing invitation. They also need to provide you with the email address they use for Endnote Online.
First of all you must Sync your library to the cloud by creating an Endnote Online account (if you do not already have one). To do this:
'Library' > 'Sync'
Share your library
'File' > 'Share'
Enter the email address of the person you are sharing with into the middle box
In the 'Permissions' box drop down you can choose whether the receiver has 'Read only' or 'Read & Write' access to your library.
Share a group
Select the group you wish to share and right click > 'Share Group'
Enter the email address of the person you are sharing with into the middle box
In the 'Permissions' box drop down you can choose whether the receiver has 'Read only' or 'Read & Write' access to your library.
In the top box of both processes you can see if the person has received the invitation yet or if it is 'pending'. You can also revoke or change Read permissions in this box.
Giving a copy
Simply save a compressed .enlx file of your library (which merges the .enl and .data files) into a more portable saved version. You can then file share or email this copy to someone else. For the other person to open the library, they must have Endnote software installed on their computer. To save a compressed file:
'File' > 'Compressed Library (.enlx)'
You are giving them a copy of the library as a separate file therefore there is no sync between the two copies.
