Researcher Support Library Services: Read and Publish (transformative) agreements

transformative agreement, also known as a "read and publish" agreement, is a contract negotiated between a specific research institution and a publisher. It is a transformation of the business model of publication in which open access charges are encompassed within the subscription fees that the research institution pays to the publisher. Over a number of years, this enables the shift from being subscription-based reading to open access publishing.  These deals are largely the result of a new initiative of a group of funders called Plan S.

Transformative deal eligibility requirements Authors must submit using their University of Plymouth email address. 2 Corresponding authors must be affiliated with the University of Plymouth. (Note that for the Wiley deal this needs to be the Responsible Corresponding Author) 2 Choosing a CC-BY license (not CC-BY-NC, CC-BY-ND, or CC-BY-NC-ND) is strongly encouraged, and is also mandated by many research funders. 4. Use of ORCIDs is also encouraged.

The Library has currently arranged the following deals that allow for open access publishing at no additional cost to authors. These deals below are open to all University of Plymouth corresponding authors regardless of funding status, unless otherwise specified in the description.

Please contact openresearch@plymouth.ac.uk with any queries.

  • The Library is automatically notified of your request with no further steps for the author.
  • The current deal runs until 31st December 2023. Our previous deal expired on 31st December 2023 and the details are here for information only. The new deal has just been finalised (February 2024), and the library intends to buy it. We cannot approve any new funding requests right now, but they are not being rejected either. Once the deal is signed off, we expect it to be backdated to 1st January 2024, and we will be able to approve eligible requests that are waiting in our account.
