- To create your reading list, go to readinglists.plymouth.ac.uk.
- Click Log in in the top right hand corner and log in using the University of Plymouth Single Sign On option, with your University email address and password (you will not see this link if you are already logged in).
- The lists that you are associated with will appear on the screen.
- To create a new list, click the
button.

As shown in the screenshot below:-
- Give your list a title (the module code is strongly recommended for ease of location and recognition).
- Create a description if you wish.
- You may choose at this stage to link the list to your module page, in which case start typing in the module code in the Link to course field until your module is listed, and select it (make sure you select the correct year). Please note you can choose to leave this field blank for the moment and link to the module page later if you wish. Bear in mind that if you link at this stage, students may be able to access your unfinished list.
- Click the NEXT button.

Please note: Course details come from the University’s central systems. If your module does not appear when you start to type it in, please email informationspecialists@plymouth.ac.uk
- More than one list can be associated with the same module code.
- Likewise, you can attach your list to more than one module.
- The list needs to be associated with the module code for the list to be seen on the corresponding module page on the DLE. When the list is associated to a module code it will appear in the Reading Lists block on your module page.
The next page invites you to create sections for your list (it's a good idea to give some thought beforehand to how you want to structure it).
In the screenshot below:-
- Click the Create sections dropdown. You will (currently) be offered a choice of a default or a weeks template. Note that some additional choices may be offered later.
- The default option is basically a blank template (you can create sections later if you wish).
- The weeks option (see below) offers you a ready-created list structure if you like to give your students weekly reading. It defaults to 8 sections but you can change this to add more or remove some weeks.
- The priority option presents you with ready-created sections for Essential or Optional reading (you can edit these to change the wording if you wish).

N.B. When you create your list the default will be DRAFT status, which means that even if you choose at the point of creating your list to link it immediately to your module page, students will not be able to see and access it whilst you are still working on it. You will need to publish it when you are ready. See here to publish your list.
You have now created your reading list and it is ready to be structured and populated! See Step 2: Creating your list structure.
If you have already structured your list by selecting a set template (e.g. the weekly template shown above), you can skip this step and move to Step 3: Adding resources to your list.
