Forgotten password

  • If you have forgotten your password and have not yet set up Self Service Password Reset (SSPR), you can reset it by calling us on 01752 588588.
  • Once your password has been reset you will need to wait at least 15 minutes before signing in.
  • Do not change your password for 24hours after it has been reset.

If you have forgotten your password but you have set up Self Service Password Reset (SSPR)

  • Go to the portal – sign in with your email address and click ‘Forgot my password’:

 

  • Enter your email address and complete the captcha

  • Choose your first verification method and follow the instructions:

 

  • Choose a second verification method and complete the process:

  • Enter a new password

  • You have successfully reset your password:

Self Service Password Reset

The University has enabled self-service password reset (SSPR) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) to protect your IT account and the University.

You will be asked to set this up when you first sign in to your account.

The prompt can be skipped for 14 days but after that you will not be able to access your account until you have completed MFA.

The easiest way to set this up is to use a smart phone, set up the Microsoft Authenticator app as your primary method, and use your mobile phone number as the secondary method. You must have two methods of authentication available in order to enable SSPR.

To get started, have your phone to hand, open a browser window on your laptop/PC and follow these instructions.

If you do not have a smart phone and cannot download the authenticator app, there are other options available e.g. the Chrome authenticator browser extension. 

If you want to check what you have set up so far or make any changes, go to office.com and sign in with your University of Plymouth  account - in the top right hand corner click on 'View account' and 'Security Info'.

Change your password

If you know your old password but want to change it:

Log in to the University Portal and select the Office 365 tile.

Click on the cog icon on the top right of the screen.

Select Change your password

Add your old password into the appropriate box and your new password into the boxes below.

Make sure: you choose a strong password for better account security. That it has a minimum length of 9 characters and has one or more:

  • Upper case characters e.g. A, B, C
  • Lower case characters e.g. a, b, c
  • Numeric characters e.g. 1,2,3
  • Special characters e.g. ! $ % & (
